By Anonymous, Thu Dec 8th

PEOPLE who are tone (not your bad shower singers but thosewho truly cannot hear or produce musical tones) are actuallyprocessing the sounds differently in their brains, researchersreported. The researchers said they found the problem in theright side of the brain. The study, led by Isabelle Peretz ofthe University of Montreal, used an EEG to measure brainactivity. For the study, eight tone-deaf adults and 10 otherswere connected to an EEG and asked to listen to a series ofmusical tones. Half the time, one of the notes was pitched up ordown. The study found that the brain of the tone deaf, or amusicvolunteers did not respond to small changes in pitch that causedchanges among the other volunteers. The researchers said morestudy was needed to narrow down where in the brain the problemwas taking place.
